the theatrics just goes to prove how reluctant and insecure we all are.
i had by then caught on to her cruelty,
how she could not resist making certain comments, no matter how cutting,
if they were clever.
these remarks were not blunders--
"the snakes crawling out," as she said the night before--
but deliberate,
and though they might have hurt, her intent was probably not malicious;
i think she simply wanted to make you feel.
here, she was saying, feel this,
experience this.
i didn't mind; i was learning what it was like to be around her--
and that it was never safe
